Long bio

The Resilient Rhythm

DJ Special K’s musical voyage began in 1995, when the soulful strains of reggae and the bold beats of hip-hop were reshaping music. He didn’t just ride the wave — he became a maestro, crafting sets that resonated with the core of the culture.

As the new millennium dawned, he broke through musical confines and emerged as an open-format DJ whose diverse blends captivated listeners everywhere. His mastery at the turntables led to collaborations with legends such as Snoop Dogg, Ice Cube, Lloyd, Ne-Yo, and Earth, Wind & Fire, and aligned him with stars like Joel Santana, Cameron, Jim Jones, Dave East, and DMX.

In Las Vegas he held a historic residency at the Tropicana Casino, where his soundtracks became the pulse of the city’s nightlife. For half a decade he was the heartbeat of countless voyages with Carnival Cruise Lines, and his sets have filled nightclubs and casinos across the United States.

In January 2020, DJ Special K was diagnosed with colon cancer, which paused his career but never his spirit. After a hard-fought battle, he returned in the summer of 2024 to his origins in Upstate New York. In the Binghamton bars and pubs where he first refined his craft, he has reignited his passion — spinning anthems of tenacity, hope, and faith in the rhythm.

Performance video

Skills session

Solo overhead footage from DJ Special K’s studio, filmed hands-and-decks. On a custom gold battle mixer with illuminated performance pads, flanked by matching gold turntables with custom gorilla-face slipmats and Serato DJ running on the laptop above, he works rhythmic scratches and precise crossfader cuts, then blends into a smooth hip-hop/R&B track (“Ain’t no way”) and closes on a stutter vocal loop.
